Shout An Art Therapy Session: ($25)

This voucher gifts healing through an art therapy session. Only catch is that the gift isn’t for you… your gift is knowing you’ve given this to someone in incredible need.

At Taranaki Retreat, many Guests’ favourite spot is the ArtCave. It’s a friendly, welcoming space brimming with brushes, paints, clay, crafting tools, collage materials and the freedom to create and express.
Sometimes people have had the experience of negative feedback about their art, perhaps from school. During a stay, Guests have the opportunity to work with a “Creativity Catalyser” - a volunteer artist who devotes their time to helping creativity to flourish. Often it’s a method of expression that people feel unsafe exploring (particularly men), in case they are laughed at. We understand this, and we also understand the benefits of expressing the depths of our suffering through sketching, painting or woodwork.

This gift enables that to happen, and for someone you may never meet to be supported through the healing care of that one-on-one time. Just imagine the difference this would make. Priceless.

Shout A Clinical Therapy Session: ($50)

This voucher gifts healing through clinical therapy or a counselling session. Only catch is that the gift isn’t for you … your gift is knowing you’ve given this to someone in incredible need.

As part of our long-term care for those supported through Taranaki Retreat, it often emerges that access to counselling is a critical part of a healing journey for our Guests.

We are fully aware of the gaps in this provision in New Zealand healthcare, and that enabling effective counselling saves lives. We know that long-term counselling (as opposed to a brief intervention) is frequently nigh-on impossible to access, yet keenly needed to address the sufferings of our past story. The Retreat has formed relationships with the very best practitioners. Understanding how much their therapeutic work is needed for our Guests - who may be experiencing daily suicidal thoughts - counsellors generously discount or donate their time.

This gift will fully fund a counselling session for a person in critical need as part of long-term therapy.

Shout A Meal: ($70)

This voucher is for a delicious meal for the whole whānau in a beautiful rural setting. Only catch is that the gift isn’t for you … your gift is knowing you’ve given this to someone in incredible need.

Each evening, all those being supported by Taranaki Retreat get together for shared kai. This includes people staying residentially, visitors who are there for the day, folks returning following a stay, volunteers and whānau.
Good nutrition—tasty food—is a key aspect of Retreat life. When things are tough, often there isn’t the money to cater well for yourself or even your whānau; or just the energy to cook. Around the table, everyone is welcome and equal. Two main course options are always offered—along with a delicious dessert; and all special diets are catered for. There’s often a lot of laughter—it’s a healing place.

Fresh, locally-grown ingredients are used—including salad grown just down the road from us, and veggies from our own patch. It is prepared and served with aroha.

This gift will feed the entire community. This gift is nourishment.

Shout A Stay: One Night: ($100)

This voucher covers a 24-hour stay at Taranaki Retreat, in a beautiful rural setting, with delicious meals, activities, therapy sessions and loving, supportive company … only catch is that the gift isn’t for you … your gift is knowing you’ve given this to someone in incredible need.
Taranaki Retreat is a residential whānau-centred peaceful time-out space. It’s a friendly, welcoming place where individuals or whole families can deal with tragedy or life-challenges. There is often a great mix of people of different ages and backgrounds staying.

This gift covers all the costs on behalf of one of the Retreat’s Guests, including their fresh clean linen, the food that’s ready and waiting in the kitchen, even the petrol for their volunteer Support Worker to visit and spend time with them as a Listening Ear.

Some who stay have been touched by suicide, or are dealing with loss or the depths of depression. Some people need time out from their situation at home, or come and stay with their whānau as part of their healing (for example, following a crisis). This gift will bring peace, hope and refreshment to a situation of suffering and hopelessness.

Shout Outreach Support: ($250)

This voucher is for a month’s worth of Outreach Support. Only catch is that the gift isn’t for you … your gift is knowing you’ve given this to someone in incredible need.

Staying residentially at Taranaki Retreat isn’t the right answer for everyone—but heading out of the Retreat for a bit of time-out, touching base with one of the Care Team, getting some time away from it all (by being part of the life of the Retreat for the day) regularly, or from time to time, can make such a difference.

For others, we regularly visit people in their homes, workplaces or a safe place such as a café or one of our local parks. This might just be so that our Guest can download the challenges of the last couple of weeks to a person who will understand. Or it might be that our Guest will be working on specific life-changing goals with their Support Worker. They will also be there to consider what other services in our community might help, right now.

Imagine what a difference this kind of non-judgemental caring support can bring to a person recently bereaved by suicide, for example. It may well save their life. Today, that is the gift you are giving.
