A reflection on grief and loss -
finding healing on our journey.
The images, beautifully sculpted by Jean, represent milestones in our grieving:
It's not a linear process. We are back and forth, up and down. But every millimeter of grief work that we do, will never need to be done again, precisely the same...
Which head do you relate most to today? And with whom can you share where you're at? Talk to us about those feelings. They are valid.
- Denial - I'm alright.... shocked... stunned... protective mask?
- Disbelief - NO no no... PAIN protest, this HURTS
- All those questions... some of them simple, some deep and hurting - that we need to be "heard" by someone (maybe our support person) in grappling with
- Anger - anguish, realisation of grim reality - how do we process this, let it out? Maybe punchbag, exercise, writing a letter and destroying it...
- Deep, deep sadness - desolation, despair
- Acceptance - one eye open, one eye closed... our grief-tasks are being done, little by little, and we begin to discern what the legacy is (helping others through this kind of experience? Recalling the good stuff and undertaking to move our focus to what was beautiful, not to where it ended)
- Healing and Peace - where our scars are part of us, but we are not defined by the loss
It's not a linear process. We are back and forth, up and down. But every millimeter of grief work that we do, will never need to be done again, precisely the same...
Which head do you relate most to today? And with whom can you share where you're at? Talk to us about those feelings. They are valid.
