Thank you so very, very, very much for your support during 2014. During this year, we have seen this vision shape and grow - and take root. We are very hopeful that Taranaki Retreat will be welcoming visitors by the middle of 2015.
A tremendous Christmas present to the Retreat was support forthcoming from the TSB Community Trust, which will enable us to build the Lodge where guests will stay. We acknowledge with humble gratitude this support, and the care that it represents for Taranaki's people. A significant aspect of the Retreat's vision is suicide prevention. We know that this sanctuary will save lives. We are so grateful to all those who share this longing, and who have gifted the Retreat their time, funds or energy during 2014.
We have a long way to go before we have funded our Quiet Room - where counselling, support work and daily prayer will happen - and just simple chilling out. Please consider a donation to help with this building, via our Give-A-Little page. THANK YOU! We have just over $36,000 left to raise to get the floor in, the building up, and even a simple carpet in place - and we WILL get there.
The Retreat was selected as the nominated charity for the Festival of Lights this year. On Sunday evening, we were invited to shake the buckets as people arrived for the evening - and over $350 was raised for the Retreat. Fabulous :) Click this link to find out more :) These funds will be put towards the ongoing construction work on the site -- speaking of which....
Over this week, Ernie has been working on constructing the access to the Quiet Room, which is separate from the rest of the Retreat, on the other side of a little stream. Please see the photos for more info. Ernie - you are an inspiration to us all. Pipes and digger - both donated. Amazing, eh!
Jim and Tom have continued to graft away in the Retreat House - which is really starting to shape up. Not long now, and ceilings will start to be installed, and maybe even a wall-lining or two. Nothing can happen, though, until the meticulous work of getting everything right inside is done (eg, applying building paper in all the outside wall cavities.
If you can help in any way - please get in touch. There are volunteer jobs to suit anyone and everyone!
Happy new year to YOU :)))
