Dear Friends of Taranaki Retreat
Great news! The Retreat is being supported by Work & Income New Zealand, through their Project in the Community scheme.
Given the community nature of the project, and the opportunities it currently gives for people to gain some experience in building and construction, a perfect plan has formed, by which subsidised labouring staff will be working full time at the Retreat from Monday. This will allow work to gather pace over the coming weeks - as the labour needs of the site will be covered by a team. The staff benefit from the experience of the Retreat, and the Retreat will benefit hugely from the susidised labour. Go WINZ!
Meanwhile, work has been continuing, with the help of our fantastic volunteer team. Photos below show Maurice building steps; the kitchen work in progress; insulation under way in one of the bedrooms; the gibbed section of ceiling where Jim has put in an awesome loft entry door; and Tom busy keeping the vegetation under control!
Thank you so much to all those who have generously donated at our bucket-shake nights at the Festival of Lights. Taranaki Retreat is the 2015 chosen charity for the Retreat... and people have been so kind. Our target is to raise $2000 towards the building phase - and it looks like we might just make that. YES!! We really appreciate the chance to share the news of the Retreat - and express our thanks to NPDC for choosing to support the Retreat through the Festival. Spreading the word is the coolest thing because - the more people know about the Retreat - the more people will know that it's here if and when they or their family might appreciate a stay one day.
Please do stay in touch - we love hearing from you. So far, over $3000 has been donated by YOU towards the building of chapel/quiet room/counselling room!! THANK YOU SO MUCH :))
All the best from
